Sandra is a fourth-year medical student at the UBC Faculty of Medicine; before retraining in medicine, she worked for more than a decade in global health and humanitarian assistance. Sandra holds a Bachelor of Arts in Environment from McGill University and a Master of Science in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science. In 2021, she received a Master of Public Health degree in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, attending as a Sommer Scholar. Sandra is interested in and passionate about health equity and social medicine and improving the social, environmental and structural determinants of health.
Jonathan Weng is a musician, licensed Emergency Medical Responder, and author. His books, Preparing for Emergencies: Life-Saving Techniques for All Ages and Understanding Cancer: A Student's Guide to Cancer Biology, are available on platforms like Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and others.
He is passionate about the medical field, including dentistry, and has gained extensive experience through participating in medical internships and volunteering programs in Africa, Peru, and Canada. In addition, Jonathan volunteers at St. John Ambulance Division 1307, furthering his commitment to community service.
In addition to his medical interests, Jonathan is the founder and president of the Music Bridge Foundation Canada (MBFC), which unites communities and supports healthcare needs through music performances and charity events. Proceeds from these events go directly to aid Canadian healthcare institutions.
Through his leadership in these initiatives, Jonathan balances his interests in healthcare and music, exemplifying dedication and striving to make a positive impact on both local and global healthcare.
Matthew Yu, serves as the Vice President of the Youth Advocates for Global Health Association. His passion for the medical field is matched only by his prowess in math and engineering. Matthew excels in science and technology courses, applying his analytical skills to solve complex problems.
Outside of academics, he is a multi-talented individual, showcasing his musical talents as a musician and gracefully gliding across the ice as a figure skater. Despite his busy schedule, Matthew remains committed to advocating for global health, leveraging his leadership role to initiate impactful projects and campaigns.
With his diverse skill set and unwavering dedication, Matthew is poised to make significant contributions to both the medical field and beyond.
Cindy Liang has a passion for the medical field. She immerses herself in science classes and extracurricular activities related to healthcare.
As the Director of Operations at the Youth Advocates for Global Health Association, Cindy demonstrates exceptional leadership skills, organizing events and initiatives aimed at promoting health awareness in the communities.
With a keen eye for detail and a strong sense of responsibility, Cindy balances her academic pursuits with her commitment to service, aspiring to make a positive impact on global health issues. Her dedication and enthusiasm pave the way for a promising future in healthcare.
Eric Kang is a dedicated medical student at UNSW in Sydney, Australia. Inspired by his father, a respected neurosurgeon and professor, Eric is committed to making meaningful contributions to the medical field.
He began his journey into medicine at a young age, volunteering as a guide and assistant for healthcare workers in hospitals. There, he helped individuals with mobility issues, conducted surveys, communicated with those with speech impediments, and supported patients with mental and physical illnesses, honing his resilience, empathy, and communication skills. Eric's dedication to volunteering earned him recognition from the Mayor of Burnaby, BC, Canada, Mike Hurley, and the WS Immigrant & Multicultural Services Society.
Passionate about medicine, Eric aims to specialize in Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) and aspires to become a skilled cardiothoracic surgeon,advancing surgical techniques and improving patient outcomes.
David Lusakha is a senior in college and the Director of Meal Mission Hub, a non-governmental organization based in Kenya that focuses on cultural development, agricultural advancement, and health and nutrition. He founded Meal Mission Hub to address the pressing needs of vulnerable communities, collaborating with various partners to enhance nutrition and well-being across the region.
As the Community Leader for the Youth Advocates for Global Health Association (YAGHA) in Kenya, David plays a crucial role in implementing initiatives centered on sustainable development and equitable access to nutritional resources. His close collaboration with YAGHA, which is recognized for supporting community-led efforts, ensures that essential resources and assistance flow into Meal Mission Hub's impactful programs. David is dedicated to empowering youth and fostering community resilience through innovative agricultural practices and health education.
David's mission focuses on agricultural development, sustainable nutrition supply, and providing support to those in need, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to improving lives and fostering growth in underserved communities.
